Oakham is a bustling market town and the county town of Rutland. Its jewel lies in Oakham Castle’s Great Hall which still stands amongst the ruins of the rest of the 12th Century Castle. Medieval traditions are still performed to this day at the Castle including weekly court sessions. Don’t forget to leave a horse shoe on the way out respecting the centuries old tradition practised by royalty and peers to the Lord of the Manor.
